Since last September, a radio promotion campaign for the municipal markets of Madrid has been carried out, developed by COCAM (Federation of Grouped Commerce and Markets of Madrid) with the collaboration of Madrid City Council through the Department of Commerce, Entrepreneurship and Innovation.
During September 24 – Municipal Market of Villa de Vallecas -October 1st -, Municipal Market of Jesús del Gran Poder– and October 8 –Santa Eugenia Municipal Market– the current affairs program has been broadcast “The morning of Madrid” by COPE, presented by Pilar Cisneros, live from the Markets. These broadcasts have included nutritionists, athletes, cooks, etc. to talk about the Municipal Markets of Madrid and all the opportunities they offer.
On the last day of the live broadcast carried out from the Santa Eugenia Market, the General Director of Commerce, Entrepreneurship and Innovation, Concha Díaz de Villegas, participated as a guest and told the listeners about the great opportunities that the markets offer.
In Madrid there are 46 Municipal Markets, being the most extensive network in all of Spain. In fact, 17 of the 21 districts of the capital have Municipal Markets located in their commercial axis. As Díaz de Villegas commented “Municipal markets are a pole of attraction. They are the true locomotive of the commercial axis. They are a trend, a trend that will not go out of style.”
The General Director of Commerce, Entrepreneurship and Innovation of the Madrid City Council recognized the great value represented by the professionals and merchants in the Municipal Markets. In fact, the majority of Municipal Markets are managed by the merchants themselves, established as associations and under administrative concession regimes. As Díaz de Villegas highlighted, the Municipal Markets constitute “a true co-working space”. Now we must face the great challenge of attracting consumers to the markets and overcoming the challenge of rejuvenating the clientele, adapting to new consumer habits, “maintaining its essence but adapting”.
The City of Madrid is committed to the Municipal Markets as a meeting point, information and gastronomic culture, a great place for entrepreneurship, offering opportunities to start a business, both with traditional and innovative formulas.
