On March 24 and 25, the I Smart Cities Congress was held at the Conde Duque Cultural Center, where more than 300 professionals gathered, reaffirming the city of Madrid as a national benchmark in Smart Cities.
The meeting, organized by the Tecma Red Group and the Spanish Network of Smart Cities (RECI), is supported by both the Ministry of Industry and the Madrid City Council, through Madrid Emprende, and reinforces the idea of promoting Madrid not only as a Smart City, but as a meeting point for technology and innovative ideas in city strategies.
Ferdinand Herrero, General Deputy Director of Economic Promotion and Smart City of Madrid Emprende, moderated the round table "Market and opportunities of Smart Cities in Spain" where the "smart" concept was addressed as a source of innovation for cities and the possibilities that the market presents for your application. Representatives of Ericsson, Grupo Etra, Lafarge and Philips participated in the table.
Topics related to connected lighting for the cities of the future, sustainability, energy efficiency and mobility were addressed. The new role played by city councils was also highlighted, as is the case of Madrid, in the development of cities, which have assumed a role that goes far beyond what they have traditionally been, turning the city into an entity dynamic and changing, adapting to a society in continuous development and based on the concepts of efficiency and optimization.
Pedro Gonzalez Torroba, General Director of Trade and Economic Development of Madrid Emprende, was one of those in charge, along with Ines Leal, Director of the Smart Cities Congress, to close the congress.
The director of Madrid Emprende highlighted the great moment that is currently taking place, since “our generation is lucky to live in a technological revolution, the first in which all citizens have the opportunity to participate and collaborate in its evolution. The smart city is a manifestation of it and has a testing ground, cities”.
