This morning the fortieth session of the Mentor Program \»Top Entrepreneurs\» in the Vivero de Empresas from Carabanchel. On this occasion we have had the presence of Adam Munoz, co-founder of bq and a benchmark entrepreneur in the international mobile telephony, electronic devices and robotics sector.
A lover of technology, theater and especially travel, this 31-year-old teleco has revolutionized the landscape of Spanish entrepreneurship together with his 5 partners. Adam claims not to be afraid of failure. His philosophy is summed up in a quote from Samuel Beck “It doesn't matter. Try again. Fail again. Fail better."
The origins of bq date back to 2003, when a group of telcos met at the Higher School of Telecommunications Engineers in Madrid to share their ideas and projects. It is there where he began his business adventure, selling together with his partners in 2005 USB memories that they bought in Germany and in 2006 making the leap to China. After this, they approached the world of e-readers and finally in 2010 bq was born with the first ones. In 2011 they tripled their turnover and in 2013 they launched the first smartphone on the market. His last step, and with which he claims to be very excited, is the manufacture of 3D printers in Navarra. Currently, bq invoices more than €200 million per year, employs more than 1,000 workers and is in full international expansion.
When those attending the meeting asked Ádan about the keys to his success, the bq co-founder replied that he believes in hard work, but also in luck. He affirms that he and his partners have never tackled projects that they could not afford and that they have grown little by little, always reinvesting the income they have generated in the company itself. It also highlights that the enthusiasm with which they do their work has been, and is, the best asset to attract talent.
Regarding the positioning and the sales strategy, Ádan explained to the attendees that they have been able to offer affordable mobiles that respond to the real needs of the people. And they have done this in a country that is at the forefront of mobile renewal in Europe (every 18 months). In addition, they are committed to taking great care of the channel and its customers, since for them they are its best ambassadors. And this year they have made the leap to television with their first spot in which they break false myths about Spanish technology.
At the end of the meeting, Ádan chatted with the attendees and answered their questions. And as usual in all Top Entrepreneurs, he has left a phrase written on the glass of the nursery “If you can do better, do it better”. A clear example of the illusion and the desire to continue advancing that he has transmitted to us today.
