The Business Incubators of the Madrid City Council are a valuable ally for the future entrepreneur. The balance that Madrid Emprende has carried out on the activity of this infrastructure network in 2013 confirms this.
In total there were 528 business projects and 1,172 people who settled last year in one of the seven centers that were in operation. The 149 incorporated companies that stayed in the offices billed 16.6 million euros and their survival rate during the year reached 100% for the first time since the municipal incubators came into operation. The rest of the businesses (379) prepared to go on the market in shared work spaces (coworkings).

By sectors, the most frequent among the network's startups are services related to information technology (22%), engineering and architecture (14%), marketing and advertising (9%), electronic commerce (8%) and business management consulting (8%). Other activities present in the incubators are human resources (5%), clean energy and the environment (4%), cultural and creative industries (3%) and social services (3%).

Networking, credibility and trust

Last year Madrid Emprende carried out a study with the selfless collaboration of Arthur D. Little that revealed the aspects that users of the Nursery Network value the most.

88% of the respondents would recommend to other people in their situation to set up their business in a nursery. According to the responses of the entrepreneurs, these centers make it easier to meet other entrepreneurs, give credibility to customers, suppliers and investors, and instill confidence and self-esteem.

The majority profile of the incubators is also the one that considers it most useful to be housed in them: people between 30 and 45 years old, sole member or with a very small team, with higher education and without previous business experience.

Specialized services

Along with the work space, the Viveros offer a series of support services to the hosted startups, which, for the most part, are also available to the majority of entrepreneurs in Madrid.

In 2013, the technicians of the centers advised 4,306 projects, supervised 589 business plans and registered 236 new companies through the PAEs (Business Activation Points).

In parallel, 270 training actions were organized, attended by 4,600 attendees.

7+7 Project

Along with the Network of Business Incubators, there are other municipal spaces aimed at entrepreneurs that are included in the 7+7 initiative launched by the City Council this year.

This line of action is based on the establishment of alliances with other entities and on the orientation towards the business promotion of some already existing infrastructures.

The 7+7 initiative expands the offer of spaces available to entrepreneurs, makes this offer more specialized and integrates new public and private agents of the entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Currently, there are five centers in operation that complete the Madrid Emprende Nurseries:

  • Industrial Factory (Calle de la Dehesa Vieja, 8)
  • Madrid On Rails (Lake Titicaca, 10)
  • Smart Lab (Monforte de Lemos avenue, 38)
  • Cultural Factory (Paseo de la Chopera, 14)
  • Entrepreneur Space (Seventh Avenue)

Before the end of the year, Tetuán Meeting Point (Plaza Donoso, 5) and an incubator at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (Calle de Einstein, 13) will come into service
