59 entrepreneurial solutions aspire to enter Madrid Smart Lab

The Madrid City Council, through Madrid Emprende, and Ferrovial Services seek, with this international call for entrepreneurs, to promote the development of innovative solutions in the field of urban services.

  • In addition to Spanish candidacies, there are teams from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Israel, Brazil and South Africa.
  • A maximum of 14 solutions will be selected. Entrepreneurs will receive six weeks of training and advice to support them in turning their ideas into a viable business.
  •  The teams will be installed for three months in the center that the Madrid City Council manages in Fuencarral-El Pardo, and will present their project at the end of the incubation period in a demo days

The Madrid City Council and Ferrovial Services have received 59 national and international projects at the close of the Madrid Smart Lab call, a novel initiative aimed at identifying and promoting innovative solutions in the field of urban services. The two challenges that have been proposed to entrepreneurs are improving the quality of life of citizens and promoting urban mobility.
 
After a detailed study of the applications, a maximum of 14 will finally enter the program from December. The selection of the finalist projects will be made based on their relevance, innovative character and eventual benefits, also assessing the ability of their promoters to carry them out. During the second half of November, the selected projects will be communicated.
 
The applications received are related to technologies associated with sensors, mobile applications, placemaking, data analysis tools and wearable. Solutions for infrastructures, consultancy or mobility have also been proposed. Most of the promoting teams that have applied are national, but there are also aspiring entrepreneurs from the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Belgium, France, Austria, Israel, Brazil, and South Africa.
The program includes a six-week period in which training and advice will be offered to support those selected to generate a viable business model, as well as a three-month incubation stage that will facilitate the implementation of their initiatives. These activities will take place in the incubator dedicated to smart city projects that Madrid Emprende has in the Fuencarral-El Pardo district.
 
Once the development stage is complete, a demo days, that is, a conference in which entrepreneurs will present their business model and technical solutions. In addition, if the degree of maturity and viability of the project allows it, entrepreneurs will be provided with the implementation of pilots in the Las Tablas neighborhood.
 
This innovative programme, which is directed by the Ferrovial Services Cities Competence Center, is part of the Ferrovial Services strategy of collaborating with cities in putting their innovation initiatives into practice, enriching the service offer with the best innovative solutions, as well as contributing to the development of society by supporting entrepreneurship.
