On November 10, the award ceremony of the Margarita Salas Research Awards 2022, in the Assembly Hall of the Conde Duque Center for Contemporary Culture.
AIM
Promoted by the Delegate Area of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of the Madrid City Council, the second edition has awarded those doctoral theses defended at universities in the Community of Madrid, which have been characterized by their scientific excellence.
The purpose of these awards is to promote research talent to promote and strengthen the development of scientific research in Madrid, facilitating the transfer of knowledge between the university and society.

Prizes were awarded to the best doctoral theses in the following categories:
- Basic sciences: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
- Life Sciences: Biology, Medicine, Agrotechnology, Pharmacy, etc.
- Environmental sciences: Sustainability, Ecology, Environment, Waste management, etc.
Prizes: 3 prizes and 4 second prizes per category: €13,000 for the first prize, €6,000 for the second prize, €4,000 for the third prize and €2,500 for each of the second prizes.

The jury was made up of renowned teaching and research staff from universities or research centers in the Community of Madrid.

MARGARITA SALAS AWARDS
The act was presented by Sandra Ortonobes (La Hiperactina) disseminator and scientist graduated in Biomedical Sciences.
It had the participation of Lucia Vinuelas, daughter of Margarita Salas and Eladio Viñuelas, who thanked the Madrid City Council for organizing the awards in honor of her mother. He also advanced the news of the creation of the Margarita Salas Foundation, with the intention of preserving his legacy and promoting science among young people and people with fewer resources.
daisy halls (born in Canero, Asturias, on November 30, 1938, died in Madrid on November 7, 2019) Graduated in Chemistry, she was a disciple of Severo Ochoa, with whom she worked in the United States after doing so with Alberto Sols in Madrid and with Eladio Viñuela, also a scientist, both were in charge of promoting Spanish research in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology.
She worked as an ad honorem associate professor of the Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC), at the Severo Ochoa Center for Molecular Biology in Madrid (CSIC-UAM). She has been an academic of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE) since 2003. In 2016 she became the first woman to receive the Echegaray Medal, awarded by the Royal Academy of Exact, Physical and Natural Sciences.
Also taking part in the act Delegate Councilor for Innovation and Entrepreneurship Angel Niño and the Delegate Councilor of the Government Area of Economy, Innovation and Employment, Miguel Ángel Redondo, who highlighted in their interventions the importance of the awards, the need to make young researchers visible and offer them recognition and support in their research work, and the commitment of the Madrid City Council to promote the transfer of knowledge between research and practical application of the advances achieved to improve and make the Madrid economy more competitive.
