Last Thursday, October 13, the entrepreneurs met in a Coffee Break in the Vivero de Empresas of Carabanchel. On this occasion we have had Patrick Raibaut, who founded the Venture Capital company DEBAEQUE in 2001 and whose investment is carried out in Europe. We can say that he is an experienced connoisseur of his sector, since he has been investing in the Internet and the technological world for almost 12 years.
Learn from mistakes
Patrick Raibaut tells us how in 2001 his foray as a pioneer did not go as expected. However, the experience helped him redefine himself and he created three Venture Capital funds and invested in several companies. And he gives advice: "When something doesn't work, you have to turn it around and think: How can I take advantage of it?"
The characteristics of a successful entrepreneur
For Patrick, some of the fundamental traits of the entrepreneur must be persistence and knowing how to listen. In addition, he adds that "having clear ideas is key", and ensures that the Spanish entrepreneur "must lose fear of the outside world and be aware of what is happening outside". Finally, he gives a key: "Risk reduction is summed up in knowledge and experience", so he advises knowing where we develop our project in order to achieve success.
Union make force
Patrick assures that "in any investment process the important thing is the people". Outside of the image of the investor with a briefcase and who is only interested in results, Patrick believes that the most important thing is that the people who work on a project believe firmly in it: “Sharing the passion for a project is key. Instill the idea that we all win if it goes well”.
Therefore, he believes that success is achieved with the union of the two parties: “We travel together: us and the entrepreneur. If we are all in the same boat, either we all go together or the ship sinks”.
The importance of contacts
Patrick tells us that they get projects through "word of mouth" or that sometimes it is the entrepreneurs themselves who recommend them to other colleagues. "Our business is based on listening to everyone", which is why he encourages entrepreneurs to present their projects.
After chatting with the attendees, Patrick Raibaut wrote a phrase on the windows of the Vivero de Empresas in Carabanchel: "People is key" ("People are the key"), once again emphasizing the importance of having a united and committed human team in any business project.
