Marcathlon, a free, recreational and educational event organized by the Spanish Patent and Trademark Office (OEPM) and the Association for the Defense of Trademarks (ANDEMA), has had the institutional participation of the Madrid City Council this year. This event has the clear objective of contribute to raising awareness among citizens about the advantages of defending the rights inherent to trademarks (industrial and intellectual property) for economic activity and job creation, as well as the risks entailed by the violation of these rights through the illegal marketing of counterfeit products.
The Madrid City Council has been actively promoting the defense of intellectual and industrial property rights through awareness campaigns to convey to citizens the risks involved in the purchase of counterfeit products, with one of its main sources of distribution being the sale. illegal peddler.
Illegal street vending and the sale of counterfeits threatens not only intellectual and industrial property rights, economic activity, innovation and job creation, but also the health and safety of consumers and users, and may constitute a activity carried out in a criminal environment. This is why the Madrid City Council, in the exercise of its powers, actively intervenes in the work of raising citizen awareness.
The Marcathlon had two activities:
- Gymkhana educational with games and didactic tests for children from 5 to 12 years old from 10.30am
- Career 5.2 km
- Junior (13-23 years old) at 11:30 a.m.
- Senior (over 23 years) at 12:30 p.m.
